Making it up: A regular Paul Bunyan

This week in English we finished reading me and Orson Welles. It was a really good story, one of the best we have read this year.  This weekend my father had the tree person over to my house to look at one of the trees in my yard.  It is a big blue spruce three that was planted then the house was built about 30 years ago.  Over the past month the tree had been getting really brown at the top so we needed to know what to do.  The tree person said the tree was basically dead and was going to have to be removed.  That happens Saturday.  Sunday I wake up and I am told that I was going to be helping my father cut down tree.  I really do not know why we cannot just have someone do it but he has always been that way.  One time we were going to go to Cleveland to see my sister and my father wanted to give her the piano from our house.  Instead of hiring piano mover we loaded it on to our truck and drove up there and then unloaded it.  That piano weighed a ton and was top heavy.  He has always wanted to do things on his own.  I think that he has been watching the History Channel show Ax Men to much.  So this tree is about 25 feet tall and sits about 10 feet from the street.  This is not a very good combination.  About 8 feet away from the tree in the street is my neighbor’s car.  There is a kid riding his bike in the street.  I can see this ending a few ways.  The tree hits the car and we have to move away, the tree hits the kid and we have to move away, the tree smashes my father and I have to do the rest of this alone, and finally I get smashed by the tree like the wicked witch of the east and the kid one the bike gets my ruby slippers.  All of these are very bad.  So what happens is the lady moves her car and the kid goes inside which cuts out 2 of the 4 possibilities.  Now my father does not have a gas powered chainsaw.  He has an electric chainsaw.  This is like racing with a Prius.  It works very slowly.  So we do everything.  The tree falls.  We clean everything up .  It was a messy job.  I had needles stuck in my hands and I had sap all over me.  As I am writing this I smell like an air freshener, which is kind of nauseating and soothing at the same time.

Making it up: States

This week in English class we were introduced to Me and Orson Wells.  My week was not very exciting until Friday.  This weekend state band contest we happening, states are held every year at Gahanna.  Blue and Gold band performed on Friday and the freshman band performed on Saturday.  In band there are different classes of music.  They are AA, A, B, C, and D.  The freshman band is class C, Blue is Class B, and Gold is AA.  I am in Gold band.  Blue band was the first to perform.  The Gold band people watched the Blue band and I thought that they did well.  After that it was our turn to perform.  We did alright and then went to sight reading.  At sight reading we did rather well.  The piece we sight read was called Mystic Portal.  I think that is a pretty neat name.  After that we went to the cafeteria to wait for the rating.  Blue band got a final rating of a 1 and Gold got the same.  It was a really big relief for all of us.  That 1 makes it 25 years of straight 1s for gold band.  I was glad that I was not in that band that broke the streak.  24 years of work down the drain would be a big disappointment.  No one was more relieved than Mr. C.  He lived up to the standard that Mr. Shell had when he left.  I think he did more than Shell would have done.  This year we changed all 3 of our songs this year.  Last year we changed 1 I think.  I was really happy for Mr. C. all of his hard work paid off.  He was also really happy for us.  All of us at Gahanna were happy that day and it was a great feeling.  A feeling that keeps me in band.

The Da Vinci Decoded

Dear Reader,

                One of the most prevalent themes in The Da Vinci Code is love.  It appears throughout the entire book in different forms.  The first type of love will be demonstrated a top ten list of ways to know that you are loved.  These are ways that Sophie Neveu has been loved in the book.  The other type of love will be shown by a recipe, a scene of Robert Langdon talking to his self, and a wanted poster.  The recipe is the things that came together over the story in order for Robert and Sophie to fall in love.  The Robert Langdon talking to himself scene is Robert trying to figure out how to do the right thing.  The wanted post will tell what Sophie did for Robert because she loved him.  Though out this post you will be seeing a few quotations about love, this is the repetend I have used.  The quotes are people thoughts on love.  Love is the theme I have chosen and this blog will support my point.

Love: Simple and with easily cleanup

Ingredients

·         A death of a close family member

·         A secret held for ten year

·         An oven preheated to thrill

·         Four ounces of secrets

·         6 cups of suspense

·         A roasting pan of police suspect

Step1: Start with the death of a close family member and add the secret held for ten years

Step 2: Preheat your oven to thrill and mix the four ounces of secrets with the 6 cups of suspense in a separate bowl

Step 3: Add the mixture to the roasting pan and put it all in the oven.  Set and forget for about a day and a half

This time I need to do the right thing.  They are counting on me.  Jacques told Sophie to find me for some reason.  I think that part of that is to protect her.  He chose her over the Grail and I am going to do the same thing.  Jacques would have wanted it that way.  Whatever I do I cannot let them get both the grail and the girl.  I need to get this vile open and get the map out.  If I do that then I win twice.  I just pray that whatever ends up happening that Sophie does not get hurt.  I would rather have them take me than Sophie.  I just want this whole thing to be over.  I think Jacques might if had the wrong man for the job tonight.  God just please tell me what to do.  I have no idea.  I just really need your help right now.  Give me the power to do what is right.

The reason I have choose these genres is because they are the most effective way to explain my theme of love.  I chose the top ten lists because in the book Sophie and her grandfather have grown apart.  She had lost love for him.  I decided to show ten ways that her grandfather did love her very much.  I chose the recipe to show all of the crazy things that took place in the book.  Each one of them is very important to the story and to the romance between Robert and Sophie.  I chose the wanted poster because throughout the whole book Robert and Sophie are running from the police.  This all came about because to the love that Jacques has for Sophie.  I finally chose the talking to self-scene because many time Robert is saying something and thinking something completely different.  He has many talking to self-type scenes in the book.  I really only experienced one problem throughout the whole project, I had trouble picking tome of the genres from the third column.  I found that picking one of those was very hard.  Other than that I really had no other problems with this project.

Jazzing It Up

This week in English class we finished reading Caesar.  Just like in Romeo and Juliet everyone died at the end.  This Friday I participated in one of the greatest nights of my year.  Friday was Jazz Nite.  This is the final event for jazz band this year. It is so much fun.  It is basically about 2 hours of jazz.  This is a great two hours for me.  Both of are jazz bands play at this event which makes it that much more fun.  Jazz 2 is what I am in and we played 8 songs on Friday.  Jazz 2 is like the junior varsity version of the jazz program.  Our varsity program is Jazz 1.  They are really good.  We went to a jazz festival a couple of weeks ago in Toledo.  They were the second to last band to play.  The school’s band played last and they were outshined by Jazz 1.  Jazz 1 is good.  Friday they played about 15 songs.  Now I did jazz band last year and jazz night was fun but this year was different.  I was one of the hosts for Jazz Nite.  It was my two buddies and I tell people what songs Jazz 1 was going to perform next.  The great that we did is we all dressed the same.  We all dressed as the blues brothers.  We went all out.  We had the sun glasses, hats, suits, the whole nine yards.  It was so much fun and I even got the crowd to laugh at my terribly hacky jokes. After the thing was done a few of us decided to get some breakfast.  This was at about 10 at night.  One of the people was one of my6 buddies that dressed with my like the blues brothers.  Now we were officially the blues brothers.  When we got to the restaurant it was a bit weird.  Everyone in the restaurant was staring at my friend and i.  The manger got that we were dressed like the blues brothers and told us so.  When we walking to our table someone asked me if i was on a mission from god to which I said a yes.  The people there got what we were going for.  About ten minutes before we left someone came in and out did us.  This lady came in dress in either a prom dress or a brides miad dress.  The dress was puffy and teal.  It was weird which provided enough time for us go leave unotived.  It was a fun night and I looking forward to it next year.
