Mr. Browning

This week in English class we learned about commas, semi-colons, and colons.  We also learned about how to use them correctly when we write.  This was a very tedious and quite frankly boring lesson.  It was meant to be useful to us and help us in the future, or that is what Mr. Potter told us.  This comma lesson brought me back to middle school and learning that back in 8th grade.  That little memory brought to one of the greatest teacher I have even had, and his name in Mr. Browning.  Mr. Browning taught American history at Middle School South and was amazing at it.  Browning was old school in the way he taught.  When we took notes we had to copy them off the board then he would explain them.  The way he would explain what we had written down is where he shinned.  He would relate American history to stories from his life.  He would relate Ulysses Grant to the time he had his eye pop out of its socket.  It really amazing stuff.  Now when students would return to visit the teachers his line was always “Are you here to hit on some sixth graders.”  He said that to just about all of his old students.  A couple of month ago some friend and I decided to go and visit our old teachers; which meant visiting Browning.  So I walk in to his classroom and see him sitting there working at his desk.  He looked at me and said, “Hello George!  Are you here to hit on some 6th graders?”
“Well you have found me out Browning, and isn’t that the reason you became a teacher,” I fired back.  Check and mate.
